The challenge

Pechanga competes for discretionary time against every other entertainment option a household can choose from the sofa. Broad awareness buying reached people, but it could not prove which impressions moved anyone toward a booking, a visit, or a reservation inquiry.

03What we did

What we did

The campaign ran three formats against one audience strategy. Programmatic display carried the visual offer across sites and apps the audience already used. Programmatic audio reached listeners inside streaming music and podcasts, a personal medium where a resort message lands during downtime rather than during work.

OTT and connected TV carried the high-impact version of the story onto living room screens, in full sight and sound, alongside the streaming programming the same households were watching. Each channel was bought programmatically, so budget could move toward the placements that produced clicks and conversions instead of sitting in a fixed schedule.

Reporting stayed on impressions, clicks, and conversions across every format. Conversions counted website visits, booking inquiries, and direct reservations, which kept the conversation about business outcomes rather than delivery.

The three formats were chosen for the moments they occupy rather than for the reach they add. Display works while attention is divided, audio works while hands and eyes are busy elsewhere, and connected TV works when a household has already settled in to be entertained. A resort is competing for exactly that last kind of attention.

Buying all three programmatically is what made the combination useful. Budget was not committed to a format at the start of the flight, so spend could follow the placements returning clicks and conversions and leave the ones that were only returning delivery. Across the campaign that produced 381,309 clicks from 7.2 million impressions.

Counting conversions as website visits, booking inquiries, and direct reservations kept the reporting anchored to the business rather than the media plan. More than 12,660 of them removed the usual argument about whether awareness spending did anything, because the campaign could point at the actions themselves.

Reach is the input, not the result

A hospitality audience is reachable in a dozen places and persuadable in only a few. The plan combined display, audio, and streaming video so the same message met people across leisure moments, then judged each channel on the conversions it produced.

Audio and OTT/CTV added an immersive layer that display alone cannot deliver, which is a likely driver behind the engagement the campaign sustained.
